Head Track and Field and Cross-Country Coach

Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU), a private four-year liberal arts university and member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (NAIA), invites applications for the position of Head Men’s/Women’s Track and Field and Cross-Country Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. The coach will oversee all aspects of building and managing a nationally competitive program while ensuring compliance with NAIA, GPAC, and university guidelines.

The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, strong leadership, and a coaching philosophy focused on player development, recruitment, and retention. Candidates should exhibit high ethical standards, strong character, and a commitment to the mission of DWU.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the men’s and women’s track & field and cross-country programs
  • Recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes who align with the mission and values of the university
  • Plan and conduct practices, training sessions, and competition preparation
  • Foster a positive team culture focused on academic success, athletic development, leadership, and character
  • Organize competition schedules, team travel, and program operations
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress and support overall student success
  • Ensure compliance with all NAIA, conference, and university policies and regulations
  • Manage program budgets, equipment, and recruiting resources responsibly
  • Hire, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches and support staff, as applicable
  • Promote the track & field and cross country programs through community engagement, fundraising, and alumni relations
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, admissions, and athletics personnel
  • Perform additional duties within the athletics department or university as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Proven coaching success required; collegiate coaching experience preferred

  • Experience in recruiting and teaching preferred

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
